History of The Inn And It's
Rooms
This colonial revival house was built in 1922
for Mr. John Sims, president of The Normal School, which is now the University of Wisconsin,
Stevens Point.
This was the new white wood sided house of the president located across the
street from Normal School's main building. Some time in the 1940's, the house
was sold to Mr. & Mrs. Weldon Leahy. Mr. Leahy was the prominent
president of the Journal Printing Company and publisher of the Stevens Point
Journal newspaper. In the early 1950's, Mr. Leahy contracted Helge Carlson, Ellis Stone Company, to apply lannon stone over the wood siding. This was one of the
last jobs that Mr. Carlson did for Ellis Stone Company. Alyce
Mae Martin, Kathy's grandmother, was married to Guy Martin. Guy's
grandfather, Hiram, and his uncle, Jesse, were instrumental figures in the
beginnings of Stevens Point
along with the founding father, George Stevens. It is that history that
inspired the Alyce Mae Martin guest room.
